covid-19 advisory: RIVERFRONT Tennis courts now closed

HENDERSON, KY, April 7, 2020– The Henderson Tennis Club in partnership with the City of Henderson has closed the Water Street tennis courts (Doc Hosbach Complex) as of Tuesday afternoon, April 7, as a pre-caution and response to the COVID-19 crisis.
The courts had remained opened as outdoor recreation and exercise have been recommended by the office of Gov. Andy Beshear. But as larger numbers have gathered at the courts, making social distancing more difficult, and the number of positive cases keeps growing it became a prudent decision to close the courts.
At the end of March, the City temporarily closed the courts for basketball (potentially a contact sport) and playgrounds (with equipment that could possibly be a means of transmission) as a precaution. All will remain closed until the viral threat has passed.
Parks remain open for passive uses for the time being.
To create another motivation for fresh air and exercise, on Tuesday Downtown Henderson Partnership plotted out a route for a 4.2420-mile run/walk starting and ending at The Perch pocket park. The route is marked.
The run/walk had been planned as an event for the community’s 4.24.20 “Love Where You Live” Day, but with the crisis at hand DHP has seized more than one opportunity to get an early start at celebrating 42420, including sidewalk chalk art and an exercise challenge, temporary (and one permanent) murals) and a “virtual tip jar” to support employees in small local businesses who have been idled by the crisis.
