Changes Made to Upcoming Spring Clean-Up Efforts-UPDATED

Henderson, KY, USA / WSON AM & FM

Henderson County Spring’s Clean-Up efforts for county residents continue this weekend, but with some changes. Due to poor experiences with unmanned drop-off sites last week, this weekend’s locations – the Baskett and Spottsvile volunteer fire departments – will be monitored by county employees and open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Those dropping off items should use the sites only during those hours of operations. The Reed and Hebbardsville VFDs have chosen not to participate. However, County Judge-Executive Brad Schneider says the county has secured a vacant lot just south of the railroad tracks in Beals that will be used as a dropoff site. The same rules will apply at this new site just like at the volunteer fire departments.

Visitors should still arrange to be able to place the items in the provided dumpsters themselves. The county will accept bulky items that won ‘t fit in normal trash cans at home, such as furniture, small appliances, bedding, scrap metal, and up to four tires per household. Hazardous waste, paint, chemicals, yard waste, household garbage, and waste from construction projects is prohibited. Littering around the dumpsters is strictly prohibited. When dumpsters fill up, the county will attempt to bring in more, but visitors MUST NOT leave refuse on the ground at the VFDs.

These same rules will apply during the last weekend of the Spring Clean-Up, May 16-17, when the drop-off sites will be the Niagara, Zion, and Robards VFDs.
