Henderson Senior Farmers Market Voucher program is here again. Vouchers are available to any senior (60+ years old) and have an income level of 185% of the federal poverty level or lower. The Henderson County Cooperative Extension Service is the county facilitator for the Senior Farmers Market Voucher program.
Vouchers can be picked up at the Education and Expo Center, located behind the Henderson County Cooperative Extension office starting Thursday, June 11th between the hours of 9 am and noon OR until vouchers are gone. Please bring state-issued identification such as a driver’s license or birth certificate for age verification and proof of income. A limited number of vouchers are available; they will be issued on a first-come, first-serve basis; one voucher booklet per household.
Vouchers can only be redeemed at the Henderson Farmers Market off of Airline Road & Garden Mile at the fairgrounds. Their hours are Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm (or until vendors are sold out).
Funding for Kentucky’s program comes from federal and state resources. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) serves as the lead agency for Senior FMNP. The low-income seniors receive $30 in checks to purchase fresh, unprocessed, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs at state-approved farmers’ markets.
Eligible food means fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs for human consumption. Eligible foods may not be processed or prepared beyond their natural state except for the usual harvesting ad cleaning processes. Only fresh, unprocessed fruits, vegetables, and fresh-cut herbs may be provided under this program.
The CDC guidelines that are in place for COVID-19 will be followed.
Please call the Henderson Cooperative Extension Office if you have questions; (270) 826-8387.
