Graham, Ky. (Muhlenberg County)– Trooper Justin Cornett, of Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville, observed a white Ford pickup traveling westbound on KY70 with the incorrect registration plate. Trooper Cornett initiated his emergency equipment to stop the vehicle around 6:54 PM on July 6, 2020.
The operator of the truck disregarded the emergency equipment, accelerated, and began to flee. The pursuit continued for several miles, entering Hopkins County and Mclean County before reentering Muhlenberg County. The operator merged onto the Western Kentucky Parkway in Greenville, where KSP successfully deployed a tire deflation device. The truck came to a stop in the median near the 45 mile marker, where the operator left his vehicle and began to run on foot. Trooper Cornett and Greenville Police Officer Kaleb Rolley apprehended the operator, identified as 67-year-old Esmaiel Shaikhood, of Henderson, Ky., after a brief foot pursuit.
Esmaiel Shaikhood was arrested and lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center, where he was charged with the following:
- Speeding 26 MPH or > Speed Limit
- Reckless Driving
- Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Failure to Wear Seat Belts
- No Registration Plates
- Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree on Foot
- Resisting Arrest
- Wanton Endangerment- 1st Degree- Police Officer
- Giving Officer False Identifying Information
