The Board of Directors of the Henderson Lions Club has voted to cancel the 2020 Lions Arts and Crafts Festival in Audubon State Park. The event was set for October 3 and 4 at the park.
After much discussion, the board decided the 2020 festival could not be held safely this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Factors that weighed in the board’s decision are the difficulties of social distancing at such a large event, the cancellation of many other late summer and fall festivals and events in the tri-state area and the concern for the safety of craft vendors, Lions Club members and the public who would attend the event. There is also the concern whether the Kentucky Department of Parks would approve the use of Audubon Park for the festival this fall.
Henderson Lions took over the festival in 2015. Over the past five-years attendance at the event has increased by thousands. The number of vendor booths has nearly doubled. The Lions return all money they raise at the event to the community for eyesight conservation and as grants to local non-profit organizations. The Henderson Lions are looking forward to the return of the festival in October of 2021.
