HWU Provides Update on Major North End Sewer Project

As announced in July, Henderson Water Utility (HWU) and our Contractor, Deig Bros. Lumber & Construction Co.,
have started a major sewer infrastructure project in the North End of Henderson. Deig has completed most of
the sewer installation on Myrene Drive, Sunset Lane, and Barker Road. All these streets will now require
asphalt repairs, and the City & HWU will be resurfacing the disturbed sections of these streets, after the
initial repairs are complete. This work will require the extension of the closure of portions of Sunset Lane
and Barker Road, near their intersection, just west of US 41 North, until 6 November 2020.

Sunset Lane will continue to be closed to through traffic southbound at Watson Lane.
Barker Road will remain closed to through westbound traffic at North Elm Street.
These streets will be barricaded, with “Local Traffic Only” signage.
The signed detour will include North Elm St, north of Barker Road, and Watson Lane,
from North Elm to Sunset Lane.

Local traffic within the closed portions of Sunset and Barker will be maintained, as will access for
emergency vehicles, deliveries, sanitation and recycling pickup, and driveway entry, to the maximum
extent possible, while maintaining safety for workers and the traveling public.

The next phase of this project will involve installation of a 12” pipe along Jamestown Drive,
Johnson Place, and Springwood Drive. Local traffic within the closed portions of these streets will
be maintained. Contractor personnel from Deig Brothers will contact affected homeowners and be available
on-site to answer questions, and every effort will be made to accommodate resident’s concerns.
Trenches will be filled with rock at the end of each day to facilitate traffic, and flaggers will be
present when one-way traffic is necessary. Some pipe on this section of the project will be installed
by horizontal directional drilling methods, to minimize disruption.
