Remaining Work to Be Finished Under Traffic
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (October 25, 2019) – Originally slated for a December opening, U.S. 60 is now open to traffic in the farming community of Stanley. The remaining items to be addressed include guardrail, seeding, and elevating another section of roadway. These will be addressed under traffic with flagmen onsite to ensure the proper routes are used by commercial vehicles.
Issues with the detour created problems within the community of Stanley, especially on Friday, October 11, when a tractor trailer became lodged on the railroad tracks and could not be removed in time to avoid a collision with the train. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
The purpose of the project is to elevate the roadway along a section of U.S. 60 to make it less likely to become submerged by flood waters. In such instances, the Stanley community becomes an island and tractor trailers can no longer access the Kimberly-Clark Plant.
The improvements on U.S. 60 are between Wimsatt Road (MP 5.4) and Jack Bosley Road (MP 6.5). The work is still on target for completion in December. The project was awarded to Yager Materials, LLC for $2.39 million.
