Full-time students can win iPad mini or $1K scholarship
Full-time college students can enter a drawing to win an iPad Mini or a $1,000 scholarship after each of Sunday’s races. Valid college I.D. or letter of admission is required to register, with incoming freshmen welcome. Those attending or enrolled in two- and four-year colleges, graduate school, vocational, technical, barber and other post-high school programs that qualify for federal aid are eligible. Students must be present to win and can only enter once.
The Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association, which represents racehorse owners and trainers at the state’s five Thoroughbred tracks, is sponsoring the iPad Mini giveaway and is teaming with Ellis Park for the $1,000 scholarships.
Sign-up for the drawings will be held at a table in the grandstand tunnel across from the Ellis Park winner’s circle. The last-race drawings are limited to full-time students who also work in, or whose parent works in, the horse-racing industry, either on the backstretch or for Ellis Park, including part-time and seasonal employees.
“College Day is an investment in our industry’s future,” said Marty Maline, executive director of the Kentucky HBPA. “This is a promotion we’re committed to building on. We believe if we can get college students to come to the track for the first time that we’ll see them return. These could be our future horse owners, racetrack executives and horsemen — and certainly our next generation of racing fans.”
Sunday also is Ellis Park’s weekly Sunday Funday promotion, with $2 hotdogs and 16-ounce draft beer for those at least 21 years old, along with $1 popcorn and peanuts. In addition, the popular mascot race will be staged around 3 p.m.
