HENDERSON, Ky. – The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners brought off the table a proposal to purchase an outdoor self-service payment kiosk for the utility collections department at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 14.
The goal is to improve customer service and reduce traffic jams in the drive-through close to payment deadlines. Customers will be able to access the self-service kiosk 24/7. The location for the kiosk, which will cost $65,000, will be finalized very soon.
Among other business, the commission:
–Finalized a series of first readings on ordinances accepting public improvements on Springwood Drive, amending the employee manual to include Veterans Day and Juneteenth holidays, making some adjustments in budgeted positions, defining graffiti, and updating the current year budget ordinance.
–Finalized an ordinance that will provide a 3 percent pay increase for non-hazardous duty and fire hazardous duty employees starting Dec. 27 as part of the employee retention and recruitment plan.
— Approved first reading of an ordinance adopting a system for registering contractors doing business within the city.
-Approved first reading amending the Code of Ordinances regarding the fine schedule used by the Code Enforcement Board and definitions of unpaid fines in code enforcement, parking, and tampering.
-Awarded bids for cleaning services for the Municipal Center ($2,488.44 per month to E.P.I.C. Systems of Evansville, and the Municipal Service Center and The Depot ($1,892.78 per month to J&C Cleaning Service of Evansville).
-Awarded a bid for the purchase of an aluminum boat, motor and trailer for Henderson Fire Department ($198,523.26 to Oquawka Boats & Fabrication Inc. of Oquawka, Ill.)
-Approved a plan to participate in a Department of Defense SkillBridge job-training program that helps transition members of the military to local law enforcement.
-Heard a presentation from Henderson Municipal Power & Light General Manager Chris Heimgartner about the utility’s long-term plan to replace utility poles along Green Street, many of which are very close to the street.
-Conducted an ordinance review on the sign ordinance and removing the employee manual from the Code of Ordinances.
-Heard a discussion about Gallery 101 and changing current ordinances to allow alcohol at receptions, parties, and other events in the building. A new ordinance to streamline permits for those events will be forthcoming.
–Honored City Manager Buzzy Newman with a proclamation declaring it “City Manager William L. “Buzzy” Newman Jr. Day” in honor of his work on the Pratt Paper LLC project, which will break ground on Thursday, Dec. 16 on the Kentucky 425 By-Pass.
The proclamation noted that Newman “has shown true leadership in helping guide this many-faceted multi-million dollar economic development project” and “devoted countless behind the scenes hours in pursuit of bringing all concerned parties to the table for discussion and negotiations.” It added that “these countless hours and additional duties were not done in a vacuum. The day-to-day business of the City continued along with all the necessary efforts to manage a city workforce during a global pandemic.”
The date for the next regular meeting is Dec. 28, 3 p.m. It will take place in the third-floor Assembly Room of the Henderson Municipal Center.
