Pre-dawn Fire at Simple Residence Inn Dislocates Over a Dozen Tenants

Just after 3 AM Wednesday, the Henderson Fire Department responded to a major structure
fire at 601 Washington Street. The 2-story Multi-Family Extended Stay Residential complex which has 36
total units on both floors had heavy fire showing from the rear off the structure and heavy smoke
pushing from the roof line/attic area. According to Fire officials the building built around the 1900’s or a little before, has been
several different occupancies since it was established. The fire appears to have started on the first floor
and spread to second floor and the attic. No injuries were reported.

Several of the tenants were assisted from the building by the Fire Department.

The 17 tenants were sheltered in a City Hart Bus until the Red Cross made temporary arrangements for places to stay.

The new portion of the building sustained heavy fire damage and water damage throughout, the older original building sustained smoke and water
damage.

Fire crews operated on scene for approx. 7hrs. With the roof collapsing, the ability to get to all the fire
was delayed and required an extensive overhaul phase.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the state fire marshal has been contacted to assist with the
fire cause and origin investigation

The Henderson Fire Department is thanking the Henderson Police Department, Henderson 911,
Henderson Ambulance Service, Henderson County EMA, the Robards FD, Henderson Gas Department,
Henderson Water Department, Henderson Public Works, HART Bus, and Henderson Municipal
Power and Light for their assistance at the scene.
