HENDERSON, KY (June 29, 2022) – The Henderson Chamber of Commerce and its Downtown Committee are excited to invite you to the Independence Day Celebration, presented by Independence Bank, on Sunday, July 3rd in downtown Henderson, KY.

 

Beginning at 5 PM near Audubon Mill Park on Water Street, this event will provide fun, patriotic entertainment for the whole family. In conjunction with the Independence Bank Celebration, the Jammin’ & Jumpin’ Pole Vaulting Competition returns this year and will take place inside Audubon Mill Park. The Competition will begin on Saturday evening around 4:30 PM, with two groups jumping that evening, wrapping up around 6:30 PM.

 

On Sunday, the pole-vaulting competition will resume at 10 AM, running throughout the day and concluding just before the fireworks show at about 9 PM.  The Independence Day Celebration will officially kick off at 5 PM, with a broad range of food and beverage vendors set up all long Water Street between 1st and 2nd Streets. We’ll be joined by fan favorites such as Acropolis Express, Trappin’ Chik’n, Up in Smoke BBQ, the Kool Shack, and Tootie’s Kettle Crack. More than ten total options for food and beverage are expected. At 5:30 PM, Rebecca Samples will provide a free one-hour concert in Audubon Mill Park, and our professional face painter, Brittany Fink of Face Craze, will be begin providing free face painting for children. Then at 6 PM, we’ll be joined by professional balloon artist and entertainer, Daniel Herron, who will be walking around the park – on stilts! – providing free balloon art for your little ones. Finally, at 6:30 PM, the Old Dam Community Band, a community band from Newburgh with more than 40 members, will provide a 2-hour musical performance playing classic patriotic hits and Americana. As the Old Dam Community Band wraps up around 8:30 PM, attendees will have plenty of time to find a great viewing spot or grab a bite to eat before the Fireworks, which will begin at approximately 9:15 PM.

 

A few reminders for the attendees include the following: No personal fireworks are allowed at or following this event in the downtown area. Please don’t be a litterbug. Trash receptacles will be available throughout the park and firework viewing area. Please bring a chair or blanket if you’d like to sit. This is a free community event, thanks to our presenting sponsor, Independence Bank, and our other sponsors including the City of Henderson, Henderson Tourist Commission, Best Insured – Chase Fulcher, Gibbs Die Casting Corp., the Henderson Lions Club, and Henderson Brewing Co.

 

With the fireworks being deployed from the Station 1 lot across from the HMP&L building on Water Street, prime viewing locations include Red Banks Park, Audubon Mill Park, the 2nd Street boat ramp, Water Street between First and Third Streets, and the Imperial Building parking lot.

Handicap parking spots will be available on 1st Street near its intersection with Water Street.
