awareness and safety. It means that we all should work together to unify our area to be ready, responsive, and
resilient against weather hazards”, said Kenny Garrett, Director, Henderson County OEM.
“As a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, organizations commit to working with NOAA’s National Weather
Service and other ambassadors to strengthen resilience in the area against extreme weather. The Weather-Ready
Nation Ambassador program will help unify efforts across Henderson County to be as prepared as possible for
severe weather”, said Christine Wielgos, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with NOAA’s National Weather
Service in Paducah, Kentucky.
To be officially recognized as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, an organization must commit to:
• Promoting Weather-Ready Nation messages and themes to their stakeholders
• Engaging with NOAA’s National Weather Service on potential collaboration opportunities
• Sharing success stories of preparedness and resiliency
• Serving as an example by educating employees on workplace preparedness
These six Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador ceremonies are examples of the continuing accomplishments of the
Henderson County “Weather-Ready Community” demonstration project. This public safety and resilience project is
being developed as a partnership between NOAA’s National Weather Service and Henderson County OEM. The
“Weather-Ready Community” demonstration project utilizes FEMA’s “Whole Community” concept to use existing
weather-ready tools along with new procedures to access, document and recommend best practices with regards to
severe weather preparedness. Once adopted by The National Weather Service Headquarters, the “Weather-Ready
Community” project will be implemented by emergency managers across the entire nation.
