SACSCOC Reaffirms HCC's Accreditation Through 2032

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has reaffirmed
Henderson Community College’s accreditation. The SACSCOC Board of Trustees reaffirmed accreditation
through 2032 during its meeting June 16.

SACSCOC is the body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education in the southern states. It
serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among the diverse institutions in
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee,
Texas, Virginia, and Latin America.

“Henderson Community College earning its reaffirmation of accreditation provides third-party validation
of the College’s academic, financial, and administrative strength,” said President/CEO Dr. Jason Warren.
“I am so proud of how our faculty, staff, and administrators embrace educational quality and continuous
improvement.”

HCC’s reaffirmation came after a rigorous, two-year review process that began with an off-site review,
involved the preparation of a Focused Report, and concluded with a three-day virtual and on-site visit by a
SACSCOC representative and a team of reviewers from peer institutions. All institutions must
demonstrate compliance with standards covering the institution’s mission, governing board,
administration and organization, faculty, institutional planning and effectiveness, student achievement,
educational programs, academic and support services, and financial and physical resources.

SACSCOC also requires that institutions submit a five-year Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) designed to
improve student learning. HCC’s plan, Solving the Puzzle: Metacognition and Student Success,
was approved with no recommendations. “Solving the Puzzle” seeks to improve HCC’s culture of learning
by exposing students to metacognitive instructional strategies throughout their educational experience.
The program’s success will be measured by course completion rates, retention rates, and graduation rates.

“The QEP activities align with the Henderson Community College Strategic Plan 2022-26,” Warren said.
“It reinforces our commitment to student success by providing a high-quality academic experience for all
students.”
