The (2-1) Henderson County Colonels ended up with their first loss of the 2022 high school football season on the road against the Boyle County Rebels 31-17 last Friday night in Danville.
Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston was asked about tonight’s game against the Central Hardin Bruins and what kind of team the Bruins have this season. “Yeah big. Offensive line wise they average over 300 pounds. Really good size and they’re just lining up and just running the ball at people. The quarterback’s a big kid, they use him a lot in the running game, he’s their second leading rusher. Running a wing T offense, like they have for a long time. It’s one of those types of offenses you don’t see, you know teams don’t run it as much anymore and so the preparation for it makes it harder because it’s not something you see week in, week out. They line up and come right at you with their big guys and that’s what they try to do, they try to be a bully. Defensively they just play sound, they don’t let things get to the edge, they try to contain everything in the box with their guys from the edge. Like I said, big guys across the field, safeties are tall, linebackers are tall, good size and they have just been able to overpower the teams that they’ve been up against.”
When asked the keys to beating the Bruins at home, Coach Boston discussed being physical and showing strong physicality and matching their physicality and getting the running backs to the edge. “Biggest thing is to make sure that we match their physicality. We talked about the physicalness of last week’s football game but with Boyle County they were physical, but they had the speed on the edges. Tonight, we’re going to have the speed advantage, so we’ve got to make sure we do a good job upfront to get our guys to the second level. We’ve got to do a good job catching the ball underneath. They stay overtop, their DBs, they’re soft, they stay back, they keep everything in front of them, try to rally to it. So, we’ve got to do a good job of throwing the ball on the perimeter and getting our running backs to the edge like we have in years past, cause once we get to the second level it’s going to be in our advantage. We’ve got to do a job of being physical upfront to give our guys the chance to get to the second level.”
The Colonels are ranked 10th in this week’s High School Football AP Poll with the Bruins ranked 9th.
Both teams don’t throw the ball that much as in 4 games the Bruins as a team have thrown for 261 passing yards and 5 passing touchdowns so far while the Colonels in 3 games as a team have thrown for 162 passing yards and 1 passing touchdown. On the other hand, both teams can run the ball as the Bruins have rushed 139 times for 1,066 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns while the Colonels have rushed 92 times for 816 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
The (2-1) Henderson County Colonels are at home tonight at Colonel Stadium as they face off against the (4-0) Central Hardin Bruins in Henderson with the kickoff at 7:00 P.M.
