The (4-1) Henderson County Colonels continued their season by taking on the (3-3) Marshall County Marshals at Colonel Stadium.
The Colonels opened up the game on defense in which the Colonels forced the Marshals to punt on their first drive of the game. On the Colonels first drive of the game, the Colonels would run 3 plays for 50 yards offense that included a 32 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT the Colonels would lead 7-0 with 9:51 to play in the first quarter. Then with 4:42 to play in the first quarter, the Colonels would cap off 8 plays for 42 yards with a 2 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jaheim Williams as the Colonels would go up 14-0 after the made PAT. The Colonels would hold the Marshals to just 20 yards of offense on their next drive as Colonel senior linebacker Luke Dalton would pick up a fumble ny the Marshals offense for a 11 yard scoop and score for the Colonels to extend their lead to 21-0 with 3:54 to play in the first quarter. Then in the 2nd quarter, the Colonels would cap off a 3 play 65 yard drive with a 3 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the PAT the Colonels would extend their lead to 28-0 with 10:13 to play in the first half. With 5:59 to play in the first half, the Colonels would cap off a 5 play 50 yard drive with a 9 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis to junior wide receiver Koien Banks, as after the made PAT the Colonels would go up 35-0 on the Marshals. The Colonels would score one more time before half as senior running back Jaheim Williams would rush for a 3 yard touchdown run to give the Colonels a 42-0 shutout lead at halftime.
The first score from either team wouldn’t come until the fourth quarter as it was the Marshals with their first score of the night, as it would be a 5 yard touchdown run by senior running back Landon Utley to narrow the score to 42-7 with 11:12 to go in the game. Then late in the fourth quarter, the Colonels would cap off a 8 play 80 yard drive with a 5 yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Anthony Burrus, as after the made PAT the Colonels would take a 49-7 lead as that would end up being the final score of the football game. The Colonels would improve to (5-1) on the season with the win while the Marshals drop to (3-4) with the loss.
Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis was 6 for 10 with 130 yards passing while throwing a touchdown and an interception on the night. Senior running back Jordan Wright led the team in rushing with 5 carries for 56 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground while the other senior running back Jaheim Williams with 3 carries for 11 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night. The leading receiver for the Colonels was junior receiver Koien Banks with 3 receptions for 57 yards and 1 touchdown catch on the night.
The Colonels as a team, had 98 yards rushing and 130 yards passing for a total of 228 yards of offense on the night. The Colonels defense held the Marshals to 6 yards rushing and 69 yards of total offense on the night, as the Colonels also forced 2 turnovers 6 punts, and only allowed 5 first downs on the night.
The Colonels will take on the Apollo Eagles next Friday night, October 7th, on the road in Owensboro with the kickoff set for 7 P.M.
