The (6-1) Henderson County Colonels continued their season at home by taking on the (5-2) Daviess County Panthers at Colonel Stadium in Henderson in a big District matchup.
The Colonels won the coin toss but elected to defer to get the football to start the second half. The Panthers on their first drive of the game would be a 6 play for 77 yard drive that would result in a 17 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Luke Wilson to junior wide receiver Luke Floyd, as after the made PAT the Panthers would take a early 7-0 lead over the Colonels with 9:44 remaining in the first quarter. The Colonels would strike back on their first drive of the game by going 2 plays for 65 yards that ended with a 55 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis to senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the missed PAT the Colonels would trail the Panthers 7-6 with 9:01 to play in the first quarter. The Colonels would force a Daviess County punt that would then result in a 8 plays for 47 yards for the Colonels that ended with a 5 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT the Colonels would take their first lead of the game with the score 13-7 with 3:40 to play in the first quarter. Neither team would score until the second quarter when the Panthers would strike with a 11 yard pass from junior quarterback Luke Wilson to senior wide receiver Decker Renfrow, as after the made PAT the Panthers would regain the lead over the Colonels as the score was 14-13 with 7:50 to play in the first half. Then with 5:00 to play in the first half the Colonels would cap off a 6 play 63 yard drive that would result in a 43 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jaheim Williams, as after the made PAT the Colonels would retake the lead with the score 20-14. Then with 3:19 to play in the first half the Colonels would strike on a 13 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jaheim Williams, as after the made PAT the Colonels would take a 13 point lead, 27-14. The Panthers would be the next to strike with a 69 yard touchdown run by senior running back Bryson Parm, as after the made PAT the Panthers cut the deficit to 27-21 with 2:41 to play in the first half. The Colonels would end the first half with a 31 yard field goal by sophomore kicker Carson Weiss, as the Colonels would be up 30-21 at halftime.
The Colonels started with the football in the second half as they were forced to punt on their first drive of the second half. On the Panthers first drive of the second half, they would cap off a 7 play 67 yard drive with a 3 yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Jack Ball, as after the made PAT the Colonels lead would be cut to 2 points with the score being 30-28 with 5:21 to play in the third quarter. The Colonels would be the next to score as the Colonels would cap off a big drive with a 73 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the missed PAT the Colonels would go up 36-28 with 4:02 to play in the third quarter. The Colonels defense came up big by forcing a safety and extending their lead to 10 points, 38-28, with 3:09 to play in the third quarter. Then with 2:01 to play in the third quarter, the Colonels would score on a 43 yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis, as after the made PAT the Colonels would extend their lead to 45-28. Then the Panthers would be the next to score as they would cap off a 4 play 65 yard drive with a 48 yard touchdown by senior running back Bryson Parm, as after the made PAT the Panthers would cut the deficit to 10 points with the score 45-35 with 1:06 to play in the third quarter. The last score of the third quarter would be the Colonels as sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT the Colonels would go up by 17 points with the score being 52-35. Then the Colonels were the first to strike in the fourth quarter as it was a 1 yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis, as after the made PAT the Colonels would extend their lead to 59-35 with 7:56 to play in the game. Then the Colonels defense would force the Panthers to punt and off of the punt Colonel senior running back Jaheim Williams would return the punt for a 35 yard touchdown to give the Colonels a 66-35 lead with 5:02 left in the game. The Colonels would strike one more time as it would be a 40 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Max Thompson to senior running back Jaheim Williams, as after the made PAT the Colonels would lead 73-35 and that’s how the game would end as the Colonels would win in dominant fashion by a 38 point margin and improve their record to (7-1) on the season while the Panthers drop to (5-3).
Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis was 6 for 7 with 160 yards passing and 2 passing touchdowns on the night. Junior quarterback Max Thompson was 2 for 3 for 44 yards passing and one passing touchdown. Senior running back Jordan Wright rushed 17 times with 160 rushing yards and ran for 2 touchdowns while the other senior running back Jaheim Williams rushed 4 times for 83 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns on the night. Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis also ran the ball 13 times for 87 yards and had 2 rushing touchdowns on the night while Jordan Wright had 3 receptions for 84 yards and 2 touchdown receptions on the night.
The Colonels as a team, had 330 yards rushing and 204 yards passing for a total of 534 yards of offense on the night. The Colonel’s defense held the Panthers to 99 yards rushing and 123 passing yards on the night, as the Colonels also forced 1 turnover, 4 punts and held the Panthers to 14 first downs on the night.
The Colonels will take on the McCracken County Mustangs next Friday night, October 21st, on the road at Marquette Stadium in Paducah with the kickoff set for 7 P.M.
