The (8-1) Henderson County Colonels continued their season at home by taking on the (7-2) Owensboro Red Devils at Colonel Stadium in Henderson in a big Class 6A Vs. Class 5A Rivalry matchup on Senior Night.
The Colonels won the coin toss but elected to defer to get the football to start the second half. Both teams started the game with punts and then on the next possession the Red Devils capped off a 6 play 31 yard drive with a 23 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Kasey Boone to senior wide receiver Ethan Pendleton, as after the made PAT the Red Devils would take a 7-0 lead over the Colonels with 5:47 to play in the first quarter. The Colonels would score on their 3rd possession of the game as they capped off a 13 play 85 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright as after the fake PAT that was thrown for the successful 2-point conversion from junior Max Thompson to senior tight end Turner Mattingly, as the Colonels took the 8-7 lead with 7:32 to play in the first half. Neither team would score again in the first half as the Colonels would go into the locker room with a 1 point lead.
In the second half neither team would score in the third quarter as with 8:11 to play in the game, the Red Devils would cap off a 10 play 97 yard touchdown drive with a 1 yard touchdown run by senior running back Kenyatta Carbon, as after the made PAT the Red Devils would retake the lead and go ahead 14-8. The Colonels would get multiple chances to score again and put together a winning drive but were unsuccessful and suffered their second loss of the season losing 14-8 to the Owensboro Red Devils. The Colonels fall to (8-2) to end the regular season heading into postseason play while the Red Devils improve to (8-2).
Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis was 9 for 19 with 109 yards passing while throwing 3 interceptions on the night. Senior running back Jaheim Williams rushed 11 times for 82 rushing yards while senior running back Jordan Wright rushed 17 times with 37 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis also ran the ball 13 times for 42 yards on the night.
The Colonels as a team, had 135 yards rushing and 109 yards passing for a total of 244 yards of offense on the night. The Colonel’s defense held the Mustangs to 107 yards rushing and 129 passing yards on the night, as the Colonels forced 4 punts and 2 turnovers.
The Colonels will take on the Barren County Trojans next Friday night, November 4th, at home at Colonel Stadium in Henderson with the kickoff TBD.
