The (8-2) Henderson County Colonels opened the Kentucky High School Football Class 6A State Playoffs at home by taking on the (4-6) Barren County Trojans at Colonel Stadium in Henderson.
The Trojans won the coin toss but elected to defer to get the football to start the second half. So it would be the Colonels to get the football first, in which, the Colonels would cap off a 3 play 62 yard drive with a 22 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jaheim Williams, as after the blocked PAT, the Colonels would have a 6-0 lead over the Trojans with 11:02 to play in the first quarter. Then the Colonels defense would force the Trojans to punt as on the next drive for the Colonels they wouldn’t take long to score as it took 1 play for a 56 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jaheim Williams, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would take a 13-0 lead over the Trojans with 9:53 to play in the first quarter. The Colonels would then stop the Trojans again and the Colonels would convert on their next drive that took 3 plays for 59 yards that would end with a 21 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Max Thompson to senior tight end Turner Mattingly, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would take a 20-0 lead over the Trojans with 6:30 to play in the first quarter. The Colonels would then be the team to score next as the Colonels would cap off a 3 play 50 yard drive with a 36 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 27-0 with 4:20 to play in the first quarter. Then after a trading of back to back interceptions by both teams, the Colonels would end with the last laugh as senior defensive player T.J. Johnson would intercept the Trojans quarterback and would capitalize with a 4 yard pick six, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would lead the Trojans 34-0 with 44 seconds to play in the first quarter. Then early in the second quarter, the Colonels would return a punt for a 52 yard touchdown form senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would take a 41-0 lead over the Trojans with 10:23 to play in the first half. Neither team would score again as the halftime score would be a 41 point advantage for the Colonels over the Trojans.
In the second half neither team would score in the third quarter as with 7:15 to play in the game, the Colonels would cap off a 10 play 73 yard touchdown drive with a 5 yard touchdown run by senior running back Donavon Lewis, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 48-0 over the Trojans. Neither team would score again as the final score would be a 48-0 shutout win for the Colonels over the Trojans in the opening round of the Class 6A State Playoffs. The Colonels improve to (9-2) on the season while the Trojans end their season with a (4-7) record.
