The Henderson County Colonels shutout the Barren County Trojans 48-0 at Colonel Stadium in Henderson in the opening round of the Class 6A State Football Playoffs.
This week the (9-2) Colonels are at Colonel Stadium in Henderson in the 2nd round of the Playoffs.
Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about tonight’s matchup against the Meade County Green Wave, “They still have the wing-T identity. They have a quarterback that can scramble and throw it, a little bit different than what they’ve had in the past. They have a receiver number 21 (Jace Beavin) that can get down the field, he’s their vertical shot guy, number 3’s (Garrett Heiner) more of their possession guy. Number 21 has almost 1,00 yards receiving on the year and number 3 has about 500, where his (number 3) catches are a lot more just possessions, first down type stuff and then number 21 is the deep play guy, he’s the one that keeps them in the game, keeps them explosive, keeps you from loading the box. (The) Quarterback number 2 (Andrew Millay) he’s really good with his feet, he does a good job of extending the plays, gets out of the pocket, can keep things going and then can also take off down the field after he scrambles to make big plays happen,” Boston added.
Coach Boston was asked what some advantages the Colonels might have against the Green Wave and Boston responded with this, “I think its overall team speed. We will match up with them upfront, (their) offensive line does a good job of blocking for the running back, (their) defensive line does a good job of squeezing and making things bounce. Offensive line wise we’ve got to do a good job of getting off the football and creating our own seams, not letting them squeeze the gaps off.”
When asked the keys to beating the Green Wave at home in the 2nd round of the Class 6A State Playoffs, Josh Boston said, “Minimize mistakes. They’re going to be disciplined, they don’t get a lot of penalties. They sit in there with their shoulders square, they do a good job tackling. We’ve got to minimize mistakes and minimize penalties on our side to equal that and let our speed advantage play for itself.”
Senior defensive lineman for the Colonels Saadiq Clements is 2nd in the state of Kentucky in sacks this season with 19 sacks. As a team, the Colonels are 2nd in the state in sacks with 39. The Colonels are ranked 11th in the state in points per game averaging 42.9 points a game. Other stat categories where the Colonels are ranked: 17th in scoring margin (margin points per game), 22nd in rushing yards per game, and 10th in rushing defense only allowing 57 rushing yards per game.
