On Tuesday night, November 15th, senior Lady Colonel softball player Kendal Hargrove signed to continue her athletic career playing for the Murray State University Lady Racers.

The first question when interviewing Kendal was what’s this moment feel like having just officially signed to play college softball, and Kendal responded with this, “I am just feeling so thankful (for) all of my support system. I’m just so grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to grow as a player and as a person.”

The second question when interviewing Kendal was why Murray State University was the best fit for her, “Murray State, they do not care as much about you as a player, but as a person. They want to develop you as a teammate instead of your stats (and) they want to develop your character,” Kendal replied.

The third question when interviewing Kendal was who she would like to thank that made this day possible, “I would love to thank my parents. They have done everything for me, from the road trips, to the long weekends. I just can’t thank them enough, they are truly my number one support system,”  Kendal responded.

The fourth question when interviewing Kendal was how important was it for her to get this signing out of the way before her senior softball season starts, and Kendal responded with this, “I just kind of knew as soon as I walked on campus that was where I wanted to be. Really it wasn’t that important to me to get the decision out of the way as it was to just commit to Murray because that is truly my home.”

The fifth question when interviewing Kendal was her expectations for her team and the Lady Colonels this upcoming season, “I just think a major expectation that I have is just growth from last year. You know we made it so far and we fell short but I am hoping this year we just grow as a team. Not only make it to the state tournament but we have that close knit group. We just have little goals that we achieve each game and we focus on the little things and not the state title but the little things every game to make us better,” Kendal replied.

The sixth question when interviewing Kendal was her individual goals for this upcoming season in her final season of high school softball, and Kendal responded with this, “Just a personal goal for my senior season is to be a leader on the team. Obviously last year we had great seniors that really set the bar high, so I just want to come in and be a leader and a role model to the younger girls.”

The seventh and final question when interviewing Kendal was what she plans on majoring in at Murray State, “I’m currently in the early college program, so I go to the (community) college full time. I will graduate with my associates and when I go to Murray I plan to major in nursing and hopefully get my masters,” Kendal responded.

Last season, Kendal hit a 306 (.306) batting average with 28 RBI’s and 6 home runs on the season.

Kendal and the Henderson County Lady Colonels will open their 2023 softball season on Monday, March 13th, 2023 at home against the Apollo E-gals at 5:45 P.M.
