Officials say that Henderson County has experienced a dramatic spike in overdoses recently. As of January 13, Henderson County has experienced more than 10 overdoses so far this year. Four of those overdoses were fatal.
These overdoses are believed to be caused by fentanyl or other drugs such as methamphetamine laced with fentanyl.
The Henderson Police Department and Henderson County Sheriff’s Department said they are aware of this problem and are working diligently to combat the trafficking of illegal substances in the community.
While they continue their enforcement efforts, they also want to educate the public about the sudden rise in overdoses and the resources available within the community.
People currently battling an addiction can receive help to find treatment through the Angel Initiative. Henderson Police and the Sheriff’s Office have said they will assist people requesting help in locating and getting to a treatment facility.
Officers advise people to keep Narcan on hand if they or a loved one is using fentanyl or methamphetamine. Narcan assists in life-saving measures until emergency professionals arrive. Narcan can be obtained for free from the Henderson Health Department, which is located at 472 Klutey Park Plaza Drive in Henderson. The Health Department is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It also has a mobile unit at the Holiday Motel, located at 1759 South Green Street in Henderson, on Wednesdays.
Anyone with information in reference to illegal substances being trafficked in the area is urged to contact either the Henderson Police Department at 270-831-1295 or the Sheriff’s Office at 270-827-8700.
