Colonels Home Struggles Continue

The Henderson County Colonels faced off against 6th district rival the Webster County Trojans at Colonel Gym.

 

In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Trojans 16-13 heading into the second quarter. In the second period, the Trojans outscored the Colonels 17-9, as the Trojans held a 5 point lead over the Colonels at halftime with the score 30-25.

 

To begin the second half, the Colonels would outscore the Trojans 18-9, as senior forward Jake Rideout and senior guard Gerard Thomas would combine for 9 points in the quarter and the Colonels would hold a 43-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final quarter, the Trojans would outscore the Colonels 18-13, as the Trojans would come away with a 1 point upset win over the Colonels with the final score 57-56. The Colonels fall to (14-7) on the season while the Trojans improve to (10-9).

 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 17 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 2 for 6 from the free throw line on the night. Sophomore guard Cooper Davenport scored 13 points while shooting 4 for 5 from the free throw line while senior forward Jake Rideout contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 2 for 4 from the free throw line. Sophomore guards Lacon McKinney and Dwaine Moss tallied 6 points a piece while junior guard Alec Satterfield added 2 points on the night.

 

As a team, the Colonels knocked down 7 three pointers and shot 11 for 21 (52%) from the free throw line while grabbing 29 total team rebounds and committing 4 turnovers on the night.

 

The Colonels will face off in a 6th District rivalry game against the Union County Braves on Friday night, January 27th, on the road at Dr. Doug Hines Gym and Gerald Tabor Court in Morganfield with the tip-off at 7:30 P.M.
