Lady Colonels Come Out of Flames with Victory

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Owensboro Lady Red Devils at home at Colonel Gym.

 

In the opening period, the Lady Red Devils would outscore the Lady Colonels 10-8 heading into the second quarter. In the second period, the Lady Red Devils would outscore the Lady Colonels 11-10, as Lady Colonel sophomore guard scored her first 6 points in the quarter as the Lady Red Devils held a 3 point lead over the Lady Colonels at halftime with the score 21-18. 

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Red Devils 18-12, as senior forward Jarie Thomas scored 10 points in the quarter and the Lady Colonels would have a 36-33 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Red Devils 22-17, as the Lady Colonels would win by 6 points with the final score 58-52. The Lady Colonels improve to (17-4) on the season while the Lady Red Devils drop to (16-7). 

 

The leading scorer for the Henderson County Lady Colonels was senior forward Jarie Thomas with a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 5 for 5 from the free throw line while also recording 3 blocks on the day. Sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles scored 13 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while shooting 5 for 8 from the free throw line and 2 for 4 from the three point line while senior guard Graci Risley tallied 12 points and 3 blocks while shooting 3 for 4 from the three point line. Sophomore forward Anna Kemp contributed 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists while freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson added 4 points on the day.

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 5 for 14 (35%) from the three point line and shot 15 for 19 (79%) from the free throw line while grabbing a total of 33 rebounds and committing 13 turnovers on the day.

 

The Lady Colonels next game will be Tuesday night, February 7th, on the road in the first game of a girl/boy doubleheader in Dixon against the Webster County Lady Trojans with the tip-off at 6 P.M.
