The Henderson County Colonels faced off against 6th District Rival the Union County Braves at home at Colonel Gym. 

 

In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Braves 16-10, as Colonel senior forward Jake Rideout scored 6 points and had 3 rebounds in the quarter. In the second period, the Colonels would outscore the Braves 13-4, as Colonel sophomore guard Lacon McKinney scored 7 points in the quarter and the Colonels would be ahead by 15 points over the Braves at halftime with the score 29-14.

 

To begin the second half, the Colonels would outscore the Braves 25-10, as senior guard Gerard Thomas and junior guard Alec Satterfield combined for 17 points in the quarter as the Colonels would hold a 54-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final quarter, the Braves would outscore the Colonels 19-14, but the Colonels would come away with a convincing 25 point win over the Braves with the final score 68-43. The Colonels improve to (19-7) on the season while the Braves fall to (10-13).

 

The Henderson County Colonels win the 6th District Regular Season Title and will play for the 6th District Championship on Thursday February 23rd at Webster County.

 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 19 points and 6 rebounds on the night. Sophomore guard Lacon McKinney contributed 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds while junior guard Alec Satterfield scored 12 points and shot 4 for 5 from the free throw line. Senior forward Jake Rideout tallied 9 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line while sophomore guard Dwaine Moss recorded 6 points while shooting 4 for 5 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Cole Branson added 2 points while sophomore forward Trajdon Davis scored 2 points and had 3 rebounds and 2 blocks on the night.

As a team, the Colonels shot 2 for 8 (25%) from the three point line and 12 for 18 (67%) from the free throw line while grabbing 26 total rebounds and committing 9 turnovers on the night.

 

The Colonels next game will be Monday night, February 13th, at home at Colonel Gym  against the Hancock County Hornets with the tip-off around 7:30 P.M.
