Colonels Exterminate Hornets

The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Hancock County Hornets at home at Colonel Gym. 

 

In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Hornets 20-12, as Colonel junior guard Alec Satterfield and senior forward Jake Rideout combined for 10 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Colonels would outscore the Hornets 20-7, as sophomore guard Lacon McKinney scored 12 points in the quarter and the Colonels would be ahead by 21 points over the Hornets at halftime with the score 40-19.

 

To begin the second half, the Colonels would outscore the Hornets 17-16, as junior guard Alec Satterfield scored 9 points in the quarter, as the first foul of the entire game would occur with 5:32 in the 3rd quarter as the Colonels would hold a 57-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final quarter, the Hornets would outscore the Colonels 22-18, but the Colonels would come away with a 18 point win over the Hornets with the final score 75-57. The Colonels improve to (20-7) on the season while the Hornets fall to (15-11).

 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was sophomore guard Lacon McKinney with 23 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 3 for 3 from the free throw line on the night. Sophomore guard Cooper Davenport scored 15 points while shooting 3 for 7 from the three point line and 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Junior guard Alec Satterfield tallied 14 points and 4 rebounds while senior guard Gerard Thomas contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Senior forward Jake Rideout recorded 8 points and 6 rebounds while sophomore forward Trajdon Davis added 4 points on the night.

As a team, the Colonels shot 4 for 13 (31%) from the three point line and 13 for 17 (77%) from the free throw line while grabbing 27 total rebounds on the night.

 

The Colonels next game will be tonight Tuesday, February 14th, at home at Colonel Gym  against the Evansville Christian Eagles with the tip-off around 7:00 P.M.
