On both days of The Kentucky Crafted Market – March 11-12 at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena – The Market Stage presents live music, including Afrobeat, Americana, Celtic, bluegrass, folk, string band music and more. These live performances feature some of the state’s most exciting musicians. All the performers are juried participants in the Kentucky Arts Council’s Performing Artists Directory. Saturday, March 11

10 a.m. | LaMay & Reese, folk
Joe LaMay on guitar and Sherri Reese on banjo, along with their strong vocal harmonies, have combined their folk, bluegrass and old-time influences into a unique vocal and instrumental sound that carries on folk traditions.

11 a.m. | Keltricity, Celtic
Keltricity is a Celtic-world band featuring traditional, contemporary and eclectic Celtic-influenced music from Ireland, Cape Breton, Scotland, England, Brittany, New England and French Canada.

Noon | Homer Ledford Award presentation
Named after the influential stringed instrument maker who lived in Winchester, this award is given every other year to a Kentucky luthier who demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship, mastery of making and setting up instruments for excellent tone and playability, and who is celebrated by the communities of musicians they serve.

The Kentucky Folklife Program, based in the Western Kentucky University Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology, began presenting the Homer Ledford Award in 2007. Find out this year’s award winner on the Market Stage Saturday at noon. See the craftsmanship and hear the tones that make this artist worthy of the award.

1 p.m. | Kentucky Wild Horse, string band
Kentucky Wild Horse, specializing in music from and about Kentucky, performs old-time, bluegrass and fiddle tunes learned from earlier generations of musicians from across the commonwealth as well as their own original songs.

2 p.m. | Swift Silver, Americana
Anna Kline and John Looney are the heart of Swift Silver, touring across the Southeast spreading the gospel of southern sound. Their collaboration is directly influenced by the redemptive strains of gospel, the drawling tremolo of rhythm and blues and the raw twang of rural Appalachian life.

3 p.m. | Marcus Wilkerson, singer/songwriter
Deeply steeped in the classic songwriting traditions of the early civil rights and peace movements, Marcus Wilkerson uses his gift to convey the tone and emotion in a story. A passionate singer, his guitar style is rough and rhythmic at one moment and then light and languid the next.

4 p.m. | Misty Mountain String Band, string band
Drawing influence from old-time music, Americana, bluegrass and songs of labor and protest, Misty Mountain String Band doesn’t stray far from its upbringing in Kentucky and West Virginia, sharing unique string band music written for today but informed by tradition.

Sunday, March 12

10 a.m. | Kyle Meadows, Celtic
Kyle Meadows has been playing the hammered dulcimer professionally for more than 30 years. The instrument’s beautiful sound first attracted him to it and continues to inspire him today.

11 a.m. | Raison D’Etre, Americana
Vickie Ellis, Violet Rae Webster and Roberta Schultz are three women who live to sing together. Original songs about love, loss and redemption; traditional folk songs; a cappella swing tunes; and Shaker hymns constitute their versatile repertoire, all delivered in their pure Kentucky blend.

Noon | Jasmine Fouts, indie folk
Jasmine Fouts writes and performs songs that lay bare the human condition. Her lyrics are confessional and compassionate; her voice is warm, tender and powerful.

1 p.m. | Fenced In, bluegrass
Fenced In has a sincere love and passion for that old-time traditional sound, blending soulful harmony vocals with top-notch instrumentation and played in the style of the bluegrass forefathers.

2 p.m. | Zoe Speaks, Americana
The musicians in Zoe Speaks draw on their deep roots in the region to put their own spin on everything from traditional ballads to finely crafted, award-winning originals.

3 p.m. | The Afrophysicists, Afrobeat
The Afrophysicists presents a lively world music travelogue of Afro-pop, Latin, samba and Afrobeat among others. From the inspirational grooves of West Africa to the pulse of Latin clave, this ensemble covers a lot of ground with their mighty horns and strong rhythmic drive.
