HENDERSON, Ky. - The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners accepted a contract with a design firm for the new Sports Complex at its regular meeting
on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
The $278,600 contract with VPS Architecture of Evansville is for the design of all fields and field lighting, concession stands and restrooms for the
complex located off Airline Road. A separate contract for an indoor sports multi-purpose facility was awarded previously to Skinner Design Associates
of Henderson.
Among other business, the commission:
--Approved a new position in the Henderson Police Department for a public safety officer, which is a civilian, non-hazardous position. The goal is to
help alleviate some of the staffing challenges and workload of police officers by reassigning duties as allowed by state law to a public safety officer.
--Approved a $395,000 contract with Harrell-Fish Inc. of Evansville for work on the Riverfront Water Feature. The work to be done includes replacement
of piping and mechanical systems. The water feature was shut down earlier than usual this season so the work could begin.
--Heard a report from Downtown Henderson Partnership Executive Director Lindsay Locasto and Parking Enforcement Officer Nancy Stone about the current
state of downtown parking. Locasto told the commission that she plans to schedule a "town meeting" about parking issues with her organization's merchant
members, including some that are new to downtown and may be unfamiliar with past attempts to manage parking, to gather their ideas. She said she will
return to an October meeting to report.
--Reappointed Stephanie Chrisman to the Municipal Housing Commission and authorized the joint City-County appointment of Kelsey Hargis to an
unexpired term on the Henderson Tourism Commission.
The next meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the third-floor Assembly Room of the Henderson Municipal Center.
