Lyons Cruise Past Christian / Hoptown Ends Colonel Season

The Lyon County Lyons faced off against the Christian County Colonels in the first game of the night in the Semifinals of the 2nd Region Tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School in Madisonville.

In the opening period, the Lyons would outscore the Colonels 18-16, as Lyons junior guard Travis Perry had 14 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Lyons would outscore the Colonels 15-10, as the Lyons would have a 7 point lead at halftime with the score 33-26. 

To begin the second half, the Lyons would outscore the Colonels 27-8, as junior guard Travis Perry scored 20 points in the quarter as the Lyons would hold a 26 point lead with the score 60-34 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Colonels would outscore the Lyons 19-16, but the Lyons would still come away with the 23 point win with the final score 76-53. The Lyons improve their record to (29-5) while the Christian County Colonels end their season with a (19-13) record.

The leading scorer for the Lyons was junior guard Travis Perry with 41 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 9 for 11 from the three point line and 12 for 14 from the free throw line while also recording 5 assists and 5 steals on the night. Junior forward Brady Shoulders contributed 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists while junior guard Jack Reddick scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Senior guard Bradin Nelson tallied 4 points, 3 rebounds, and dished 3 assists while freshman guard Bray Kirk recorded 3 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals while senior forward Walker Suitor added 2 points. To round out the scoring for the Lyons, freshman forward Carson Collins tallied 2 points on the night. 

As a team, the Lyons were 13 for 24 (54%) from the three point line and shot 19 for 22 (86%) from the free throw line while grabbing 23 total rebounds and committing 14 turnovers on the night. The Lyons also added 14 assists, 2 blocks, and 11 steals. 

The leading scorer for the Christian County Colonels was junior forward Breland Morrison with 17 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line on the night. Junior forward Derrell Bateman contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line while junior guard Jordan Miles scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while recording 3 steals. Senior forward Kevarius Vaughn tallied 3 points while junior guard Prince Northington recorded 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Junior forward JaSean Riley added 2 points and 2 rebounds while senior center George Sanders contributed 2 points and 3 rebounds. To round out the scoring for Christian County, senior guard TreyCoreus Blanton scored 2 points and had 3 steals on the night.

As a team, the Christian County Colonels were 3 for 20 (15%) from the three point line and shot 8 for 11 (73%) from the free throw line while grabbing 30 total rebounds and committing 17 turnovers on the night. The Colonels also added 6 assists, 3 blocks, and 5 steals.

The Hopkinsville Tigers faced off against the Henderson County Colonels in the second game of the night in the Semifinals of the 2nd Region Tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School in Madisonville.

In the opening period, the Tigers would outscore the Colonels 16-10, as Tiger senior forward Jacob Gavin scored 6 points and grabbed 2 rebounds in the quarter. In the second period, the Colonels would outscore the Tigers 22-11, as Colonel sophomore guard Cooper Davenport and senior guard Gerard Thomas combined for 14 points and 6 rebounds in the quarter as the Colonels would have a 5 point lead at halftime with the score 32-27.

To begin the second half, the Tigers would outscore the Colonels 19-14, as Tiger senior guard Bubba Leavell and senior guard KeiMarion combined for 11 points in the quarter as the Tigers and Colonels would be tied with the score 46-46 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Tigers would outscore the Colonels 23-14, as junior forward Antonio Williams scored 17 points of his 19 for the game in the fourth quarter as the Tigers would end the Colonels season coming away with a 69-60 win. The Tigers improve their record to (15-16) on the season while the Colonels end their season with a (22-9) record.

The leading scorer for the Tigers was junior forward Antonio Williams with 19 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line on the night. Senior guard Bubba Leavell scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds while recording 3 assists and 2 steals while senior forward Jacob Gavin tallied 12 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 4 for 5 from the free throw line. Senior guard KeiMarion Smith recorded 12 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 3 for 5 from the three point line while senior forward Isaiah Manning contributed a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. To round out the scoring for the Tigers, senior guard Gavarion Northington added 3 points on the night.

As a team, the Tigers were 5 for 13 (39%) from the three point line and shot 12 for 16 (75%) from the free throw line while grabbing 31 total rebounds and committing 10 turnovers on the night. The Tigers also added 7 assists, 1 block, and 5 steals. 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was sophomore guard Cooper Davenport with 20 points while shooting 4 for 10 from the three point line and 4 for 5 from the free throw line on the night. Senior guard Gerard Thomas contributed 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists while shooting 6 for 6 from the free throw line while sophomore guard Lacon McKinney scored 10 points and grabbed 2 rebounds. Junior guard Alec Satterfield tallied 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists while senior forward Jake Rideout added 6 points and grabbed 3 rebounds along with 2 assists and 2 blocks on the night.

 As a team, the Colonel were 6 for 16 (38%) from the three point line and shot 14 for 17 (82%) from the free throw line while grabbing 15 total rebounds and committing 11 turnovers on the night. The Colonels also added 10 assists, 2 blocks, and 4 steals. 

The Hopkinsville Tigers will take on the Lyon County Lyons tonight, March 7th, at 6:00 P.M. in Madisonville in the 2nd Region Tournament Championship Game.
