On Tuesday afternoon, March 7th, Colonel wrestler JJ Poynter signed to continue his athletic career wrestling for the Mount Saint Joseph University Lions.

The first question when interviewing JJ was how does it feel to be a college wrestler, “It’s exciting but a little nerve wracking because everything is becoming real. Definitely excited to see where this takes me.”

The second question when interviewing JJ was why Mount Saint Joseph University was the best fit for him, “Best fit for me because (of) the coaching, real good coaches but also the environment, though it is in Cincinnati its further away from the city so I really like that coming from Henderson a little bit of a smaller town so not overwhelming. It’s a smaller campus, beautiful campus. It’s just a great fit for me.”

The third question when interviewing JJ was what attracted him to want to wrestle for them and JJ responded with this, “They’re probably one of the best Greco-Roman/freestyle teams in Division 3. They have a really good coaching program. A whole bunch of their kids will travel the world for tournaments, things like that. There are like six practices a day except on weekends so there are a lot of opportunities to grow.”

The fourth question when interviewing JJ was what are his plans academically and JJ responded with this, “I’m going to be majoring in computer science and I’m probably going to minor in mathematics. (I’m going to) Try and be a computer scientist, a software engineer, something along those lines, a lot of programming, a lot of math involved in my career in the future.”

The fifth question when interviewing JJ was who he would like to thank that made this day possible, “Obviously my dad. He’s the one that got me into wrestling back when I wrestled for Union County in middle school, he’s also the one that started up the program here (at Henderson County). I’d like to thank all of my assistant coaches, Scotty Hogan, Brandon (Cole), but probably one of the biggest ones is the coaches at Christian County. It was them that gave me the shoutout that got Mount Saint Joseph to look at me and so I would like to thank them.”
