The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Union County Braves in a 6th District Rivalry Game in Morganfield.

The Colonels scored on an error by the Braves catcher in the top of the 4th inning. The Colonels would score 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning as one of the runs would be scored on a wild pitch and the other 2 runs from a 2 run RBI double by senior Bryce Hayden.

Colonel’s player with some notable stats was sophomore right fielder Dax Wilson who was 2 for 4 and had 3 stolen bases on the night. Also Bryce Hayden was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases.

Colonels senior pitcher Brennan Cates only allowed 1 hit and 0 runs while only walking 4 batters and recording 8 strikeouts on the night.

As a team, the Colonels scored 4 runs and recorded 7 hits, 2 RBI’s, 1 double, and 9 stolen bases on the night.

Braves only hit came from sophomore first baseman Korben Lucas in the bottom of the 2nd inning. As a team, the Braves recorded 1 hit, 2 stolen bases, and 2 errors committed on the night.

Henderson County Colonels head coach Adam Hines talked about his team’s performance to open up 6th District play, “Yeah feels good to get that first win. I know the second game is the (most) important game but I like to win them all if we can. A great outing by Brennan Cates, a complete game shutout. Couldn’t ask more from him made some big pitches tonight in heated spots, you know 1-0 all the way until the 7th (inning). Then we scraped a run in the 4th (inning), they made a mistake on a throwing error and then I was happy that we were able to put some runs up late to kind of give us a little breathing here at the end.”

Union County Braves head coach Chad Robinson talked about his observations on the night, “Pretty well pitched game, well defended game. They just competed at the plate a lot better than we did. They did a really good job of getting on base and making things happen and our offense was kind of stale today.”

The Colonels will face the Braves again tomorrow night, April 13th in Henderson with the first pitch at 5:30 P.M.
