The Colonels would strike first in the bottom of the 1st inning with senior pitcher Dru Meadows hitting a solo home run, his first of the season and the teams 4th on the season.

The Colonels would score 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with 3 singles and 1 double that led to the 4 runs in the inning to give the Colonels a 5-0 lead.

The Braves would score in the top of the 4th inning to narrow the Colonels lead to 5-1.

Junior shortstop Alec Satterfield would start off the bottom of the 4th inning with a triple as senior Brennan Cates would come up next and hit a single that would score Satterfield to give the Colonels a 6-1 lead.

The Colonels would score 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning off of an error, a sacrifice fly, and a ground out to give them a 9-1 lead.

Neither team would score again as the Colonels would come away with a 9-1 victory improving the Colonels record to (7-8) while the Braves fall to (4-7).

Colonel’s player with some notable stats was senior pitcher Dru Meadows who was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and a home run and had 3 stolen bases on the night. Also Alec Satterfield was 2 for 2 with 1 stolen base and a triple on the night. Senior Brennan Cates was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and a stolen base.

Colonels senior pitcher Dru Meadows went the full 7 innings and only allowed 4 hits and 1 run while only walking 1 batter and recording 4 strikeouts on the night.

As a team, the Colonels scored 9 runs and recorded 8 hits, 9 RBI’s, 1 double, 1 triple, 2 errors, and 10 stolen bases on the night.

The Braves had 4 different players with a hit, as sophomore catcher Tate Nobles was 1 for 3 with an RBI on the night.  As a team, the Braves recorded 4 hits, 1 RBI, 1 error, and 1 double on the night.

Player of the game for the Colonels was senior pitcher Dru Meadows. I asked Dru how he felt like he performed in the game and he responded with this, “I guess I saw the ball well tonight. Everything that was thrown at me I felt like I could hit a mile. We had guys on base when I was up to bat that just put me in a good spot to hit them in.” Then I asked him how his team played and he responded with this, “We all saw the ball well tonight. We had a crap ton of hits, got guys on base, stole bases. You get guys on base like that just to put them in a position to score it’s just awesome.”

Henderson County Colonels head coach Adam Hines talked about his team’s performance and his senior pitcher Dru Meadows, “Yeah Dru was good tonight in the strike zone, all pitches effective. Was able to get hitters started on the pitches which is kind of a big deal and then tried to get under barrels. The main thing for him is I think we got a lot of weak contact that we can make (defensive) plays on. We made like Coach (John) Arndt said in the meeting I mean we made great defensive plays behind him (Meadows) some of the better plays I have seen and then offensively struggled a little bit, scored early and then struggled through the middle innings but then we were able to give ourselves up there at the end to sacrifice and get some runs. Good all-around performance.”

Union County Braves head coach Chad Robinson talked about his observations on the night, “Kind of like last night we didn’t compete at the plate like we wanted to tonight. Little (bit) better than last night but we left some opportunities out there and we didn’t apply pressure early and they did and it kind of turned out the way it did.”

The Colonels next 6th District game will be at home on Tuesday night, April 25th at 5:30 P.M.
