In the top of the 7th inning, the Colonels would turn a 5-4-3 double play to end the game as the Colonels would come away with a 8-0 victory over the Trojans of Webster County. The Colonels improve to (10-11) on the season while the Trojans fall to (9-11).

Colonel’s player with some notable stats was senior pitcher Brennan Cates who was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and a double on the night. Senior center fielder Dru Meadows was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s that included a home run while Cooper Vowels, Alec Satterfield, and Bryce Hayden all had 1 hit each on the night.

Colonels senior pitcher Brennan Cates went the full 7 innings and only allowed 2 hits and 0 runs while only walking 1 batter and recording 9 strikeouts on the night.

As a team, the Colonels scored 8 runs and recorded 6 hits, 5 RBI’s, 1 double, 1 triple, 1 error, 1 home run, and 5 stolen bases on the night.

The Trojans had senior right fielder Jace Thurby get a hit while freshman left fielder Trace Hardison also recorded a hit on the night.  As a team, the Trojans recorded 2 hits and 5 errors on the night.

Player of the game for the Colonels was senior pitcher Brennan Cates. I asked Brennan how he felt like he performed in the game and how his team played and he responded with this, “We played awesome. Couldn’t ask for much more. We came out early, battled early. Set the tone later on. They made some mistakes (and) we capitalized off of them.”

Henderson County Colonels head coach Adam Hines talked about his team’s performance and his senior pitcher Brennan Cates, “Good opening start by Brennan Cates. (He) did a good job competitive in the strike zone. I knew they were going to try and run their offense through a couple of guys there and I think he handled them really well, threw a lot of different pitches for strikes. Really up and down the lineup, competitive all night, got the swings we needed, one walk maybe and that was it and set the tone for us. Offense struggled a little bit early but came back and got in a rhythm and finally got going a little bit, stole some bases and that kind of (got) us kick started and ended up a good night for us all.”

Webster County Trojans head coach Jeff Givens talked about his observations on the night, “First and foremost we didn’t hit the ball tonight. If we started hitting the ball and putting some pressure on them things may turn out a little bit different. A couple of things we’ve got to work on for tomorrow. We’re going to play the second game (against Henderson County) tomorrow and that’s going to be the one that’s important going into the district tournament. We win it tomorrow, it looks like we’re going to the regional tournament automatically. Worked on some things tonight and we really came in with the mindset that we were going to fill it out and see how things were working against them because a lot of the guys they had last year graduated. We found some things out tonight and hopefully we can turn it around tomorrow and do what we do on the field and we just didn’t do that tonight. We committed a couple of errors and didn’t hit the ball and when those two things happen, you have a tendency to lose games.”

The Colonels next 6th District game will be on the road in Dixon against the Webster County Trojans Wednesday night, April 26th, at 5:30 P.M.
