On Wednesday afternoon, April 26th, Colonels senior basketball player Gerard Thomas signed to continue his academic and athletic career for the Vincennes University Trailblazers.

Thomas talked about why Vincennes University was the best fit for him, “It was just the best fit because I knew that I could trust Coach Franklin and he would get me to where I need to be. All I had to do was just listen and it’s the hardest path and I feel like I’m able to take that challenge on and so therefore I chose Vincennes (University).”

Thomas discussed his academic plans while attending Vincennes University, “I plan to study physical education and end up becoming a PE teacher and end up coaching someday.”

Thomas discussed how it feels to be officially signed to be a college basketball player now, “Haven’t really got the feeling yet. I’ve only played a couple of scrimmages with them but to sign it feels awesome.”

Thomas talked about who he wanted to thank that made this day possible, “I’d like to thank Coach (Tyler) Smithhart, Beth (Bird) and Paul (Bird), my parents, and friends and family.”

Thomas discussed what made him want to sign and play basketball at the college level at Vincennes University, “Just the legacy they have left behind. Everybody there that I know and heard of has been successful and I know there is no room for mistakes and that’s exactly where I needed to be.”

Gerard Thomas scored 1,362 career points in his 3 seasons while playing for the Henderson County Colonels.
