The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Union County Bravettes in the 6th District Tournament Championship Game in Henderson.

Lady Colonel sophomore pitcher Anna Kemp struck out the side in the top of the 1st inning.

The Lady Colonels would strike first as in the bottom of the 1st inning the Lady Colonels would score on a 2-run homerun by senior second baseman Anna Willett and an error as the Lady Colonels would have a 3-0 lead heading into the top of the 2nd inning.

A few walks led to 2 runs and a 2-RBI double gave the Lad Colonels a 8-0 lead heading into the top of the 3rd inning.

To begin the bottom of the 3rd inning sophomore pitcher Anna Kemp hit a solo home run to give the Lady Colonels a 9-0 lead heading into the top of the 4th inning.

Two home runs, one by senior shortstop JaMaya Byrum and one by sophomore pitcher Anna Kemp along with a RBI single by junior left fielder Alyse Rollings in the bottom of the 4th inning would give the Lady Colonels a 12-0 lead heading into the top of the 5th inning.

The Bravettes would need at least 3 runs in order to avoid the 10 run rule but Lady Colonel sophomore pitcher Anna Kemp wouldn’t let that happen as she would record 2 strikeouts and the Lady Colonels would win their 3rd straight 6th District Championship as they shutout the Union County Bravettes 12-0 in 5 innings. The Lady Colonels improve to (27-5) on the season while the Bravettes fall to (15-18).

Player of the game for the Lady Colonels was senior shortstop JaMaya Byrum who was 1 for 3 with a home run and 1 RBI on the night. I asked JaMaya how she felt like she performed in the game and how her team played and she responded with this, “I thought I did well but I’m incredibly proud of my teammates. Our defense has been great so far and I’m looking forward to really working on it for the next few games. Then of course our offense really showed up tonight and I’m really proud of just the team chemistry that we have so far because we’re bringing all the energy that we need for this final season games, so I’m really proud of us.”

Henderson County Lady Colonels head coach Shannon Troutman talked about his team’s performance, “They played well. Anna Kemp threw a good game, hitters came out ready, so I’m proud of them but now it’s business time, now it’s lose and you’re done. We have got to work on staying locked in and making sure that we’re ready every game.”

Union County Bravettes head coach Taner Fowler talked about her observations on the game, “I thought we came and played well. Our girls came out (and) they had a good attitude. We had innings that we could’ve put runs up, so I thought we played decent.”
