Colonels senior pitcher Dru Meadows went 4 and a ⅓ innings allowing 1 hits and 2 runs while walking 3 batters and recording 3 strikeouts on the night. Sophomore pitcher Dax Wilson relieved Meadows.  As a team, the Colonels scored 9 runs and recorded 9 hits, 7 RBI’s, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 2 errors, and 8 stolen bases on the night.

Player of the game for the Colonels was senior pitcher Brennan Cates. I asked Brennan how he felt like he performed in the game and how his team played and he responded with this, “We just came into the game really prepared, we knew we were going to face some good pitchers. We knew we had to bust out the gate early, we put up 5 runs in the first 2 innings and that set us up for success the whole way.”

Henderson County Colonels head coach Adam Hines talked about his team’s performance on the night, “Like I’ve told Steve (Tow) and those guys on the radio before the games that we are playing our best baseball and that’s all you can ask from this crew. Good pitching from Drew early. Good hitting, we did a good job with two good pitchers and kept scoring. Really gave some relief to our bullpen and helped us get some guys in to get some strikes going, but just a team effort. I could sit here and point out a million different individual things but we just played well overall.”

The Colonels will take on the Christian County Colonels tomorrow night, Tuesday May 23rd, at 6:00 P.M. in the 2nd Region Baseball Tournament Championship Game in Henderson at B.T. Wayne Field.
