Kemp, Lady Colonels Shutout Win to Advance to Final Four

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Central Hardin Lady Bruins in the Quarterfinals of the KHSAA FastPitch Softball State Tournament in Lexington at John Cropp Stadium.

The Lady Colonels struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning with a one out 2 run home run by junior center fielder Taylor Troutman to give the Lady Colonels a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the 2nd inning. 

Lady Colonels sophomore pitcher Anna Kemp struck out the side in the top of the 2nd inning. 

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Lady Colonels would score 2 runs on back to back RBI doubles, one from senior first baseman Kendal Hargrove and one from senior shortstop JaMaya Byrum to give the Lady Colonels a 4-0 lead over the Lady Bruins heading to the top of the 4th inning.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Lady Colonels scored 2 runs on 2 singles, one by Hallie McCracken and one by JaMaya Byrum, and 1 run on a sacrifice fly by Mackenzie Burczyk to give the Lady Colonels a 7-0 lead over the Lady Bruins heading into the top of the 6th inning. 

The Lady Colonels would not give a run and go on to shutout the Lady Bruins 7-0 to advance to the Final Four of the State Softball Tournament. The Lady Colonels improve their record to (32-5) on the season while the Central Hardin Lady Bruins end their season with a (33-9).

 

Lady Colonel’s senior shortstop JaMaya Byrum was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s while senior second baseman Anna Willett was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles on the night. 

 

Lady Colonels sophomore pitcher Anna Kemp pitched 7 innings while allowing 2 hits and 0 runs while walking 4 batters and recording 7 strikeouts on the night. 

 

As a team, the Lady Colonels scored 7 runs and recorded 9 hits, 7 RBI’s, 3 doubles, 0 errors, 1 home run, and 3 stolen bases on the night.

 

The Lady Colonels will take on the 12th Region Champion, the East Jessamine Lady Jaguars on Friday afternoon, June 9th, at 4:00 P.M. in the Semifinals of the 2023 State Softball Tournament in Lexington at John Cropp Stadium.
