The Spartans would take advantage as the momentum swung back in the Spartans as they would score two times off the onside kick, one score in thirty seconds on a 61 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Bryce Button to senior wide receiver DeShawn Bridges, and the other score and other in 10 seconds on a 63 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Bryce Button to senior wide receiver Bailey Shoemaker, as after both made PATs, the Spartans would take a 31-14 lead over the Colonels with 3:47 to play in the third quarter. The Spartans defense would hold the Colonels to nothing else offensively the rest of the way and the Colonels would suffer a 38-14 loss in the first road game of the season to the Spartans. The Colonels fall to (1-1) on the season while the Spartans improve to (2-0).

The Colonels had 4 penalties for 35 yards while the Spartans had 9 penalties for 76 yards on the night.

Head Coach of the Colonels Josh Boston talked about his observations on the game during the Post Game and Boston said this, “It’s like I said in the pregame show, for us to win tonight we had to survive the surge and we didn’t do that. We knew how good they were, we knew how big they were, we had to survive the initial surge and if we did that we were going to be able to play. So we didn’t survive the surge in the first half, got down 17-0 and then came out after halftime, got refocused and just had to understand you can play with these guys. Then we come out and five minutes to go in the third quarter, its 17-14 and the emotions changed, they understood what we talked about at halftime but then it’s almost like (we) (showed) a little (bit) of immaturity and then we just didn’t make the plays when the emotions hit. That’s just a part of being inexperienced, part of being young and we don’t want us to make excuses on it but it’s just like I told the kids, every single one of us, there’s no pointing fingers. Every single one of us has something we’ve got to own tonight and we’ve got to make sure we go on film and we’ve got to learn from it. You’ve got to own your part, every single receiver dropped a ball that was a crucial ball tonight, every single (defensive back) busted a coverage tonight that was a crucial play, every single guy in the box missed a tackle that was a crucial play to stop the chains from moving. When you are playing a good football team it’s every single play that you’ve got to play. We had some breaks tonight and we took advantage of those breaks when we had those breaks, you know getting the turnover and then blocking the punt. We did some things that we showed that we can do, we just got to make sure that we handle the emotional curve and don’t get so high whenever, all of a sudden we make that surge back in the third quarter, we don’t get so high that all of a sudden we go back to dropping the balls and doing the things that we were doing in the first half when we didn’t survive that surge.”

The Colonels will take on the Central Hardin Bruins next Friday night, September 1st, on the road in Elizabethtown with the kickoff time at 7:00 P.M.
