Colonels Look to Rebound Against Aces

By Ryan Davenport, WSON Sports Correspondent

The Henderson County Colonels suffered a loss against the Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado, 42-27, at home in Henderson last Friday night.

This week the Colonels are on the road at Steele Stadium on the campus of Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.

Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about the Owensboro Catholic Aces and the takeaways he saw in film, “The biggest thing is the quarterback. Brady Atwell is a really, really good football player. He’s probably the best quarterback we’ll see this season and he’s doing everything he needs to do in the air and with his feet. Against Owensboro last week he threw for 280 yards but then he also rushed for over 100 (yards) and he’s a really good football player and he’s got that team right now. He’s got a good showcase of receivers around him, you’ve got the (William) Carrico kid at the inside receiver who’s their big play guy offensively, and then defensively, his brother, the other (Vince) Carrico kid, he’s at mike linebacker(middle linebacker), he’s sitting in the middle of the defense and patrolling and leading them in tackles and flying to the football. They’ve got a really good group of kids around them right now and quarterback Atwell is leading the way for them.”

Coach Boston talked about some keys to the game for the Colonels to come away with a win against the Aces, “Biggest thing is match their discipline. Last week we were out athleted and we had to be the more physical team, the more disciplined team, and we did that in the second, third, and fourth quarter. We’re not going to be behind the ball athleticism, we’ve got to match their discipline. They do things the right way and they play the game the right way and so we’ve got to make sure that we’re focused and disciplined every snap tonight.”

In his 6th season as the Head Coach of the Aces, Coach John Morris talked about the keys to the game for the Aces to come away with a win at home against the Colonels, “Again this goes back to coach talk but winning the turnover battle is very important. We can’t allow Henderson County to grind long drives out especially after we turn the football over or something like that to where they try to play keep away from us. We need to be efficient in the passing game, keep our quarterback clean, and make sure we take care of the football but defensively the main thing is going to be making sure we don’t let your quarterback (Trajdon Davis) get loose on us.”

Kickoff for tonight’s game against the (4-0) Owensboro Catholic Aces is at 7:00 P.M. at Steele Stadium in Owensboro.

WSON AM/FM will have complete coverage beginning with the pre-game around 6:05 P.M.
