Aces Air Raid too much for the Colonels

The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Owensboro Catholic Aces on the road in Owensboro.

 

The Aces would be the first to strike as they would cap off a 6 play, 57 yard drive with a 24 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Brady Atwell to senior wide receiver Tutt Carrico, as after the made PAT, the Aces would have an early 7-0 lead with 10:19 to play in the first quarter. Both defenses would force some stops but eventually the Aces executed on a 4 play, 35 yard drive that ended with a 5 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Brady Atwell to junior wide receiver Waryn Ebelhar, as after the made PAT, the Aces would go ahead 14-0 with 10:03 to play in the first half. The Aces defense would get a defensive stop against the Colonels and execute with a 5 play, 74 yard drive that ended with a 54 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Brady Atwell to junior wide receiver Waryn Ebelhar, as after the made PAT, the Aces would extend their lead to 21-0 with 6:07 to play in the first half. The Colonels would respond with a long 12 play, 76 yard drive that ended with a 7 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Trajdon Davis to senior wide receiver Mason Bridgeman, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would cut the deficit to 21-7 heading into the locker room at halftime.

 

The Colonels would start with the ball in the second half and they would execute on a long 14 play, 85 yard drive that would end with a 24 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Trajdon Davis to senior wide receiver Max Thompson, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would only trail the Aces 21-14 with 5:16 to play in the third quarter. The Aces would respond with a 8 play, 80 yard drive that would result in a 27 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Brady Atwell to senior wide receiver Noah Rhinerson, as after the blocked PAT, the Aces would go up 27-14 with 3:28 to play in the third quarter. The Aces would force a three and out on the Colonels and then the Aces would execute that defensive stop with a 4 play, 62 yard drive that would end with a 22 yard touchdown run by senior receiver Noah Rhinerson, as after the made PAT, the Aces would extend their lead to 34-14 with 50 seconds to play in the third quarter. The Colonels would struggle early in the 4th quarter but would force the Aces star quarterback Brady Atwell to throw an interception into the hands of Colonel sophomore linebacker Jack Ryan Reusch to set up the Colonels from their own 42 yard line. The Colonels offense would execute on the Aces mistake with a 6 play, 58 yard drive that would end with a 29 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Trajdon Davis to junior running back Tony Burrus, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would trail the Aces 34-21 with 6:44 to play in the game. The Aces would respond with a 8 play, 56 yard drive that would result in a 19 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Brady Atwell to senior receiver Noah Rhinerson, as after the made PAT, the Aces would extend their lead to 41-21 with 3:38 to play in the game. The Colonels would try to score at the very end of the game but couldn’t punch in another score and the Colonels would fall to the Aces with the final score 41-21. The Colonels fall to (1-4) on the season while the Aces improve to a (5-0) record.

 

Colonel junior quarterback Trajdon Davis was 12 for 20 with 150 yards and 3 touchdown passes on the night. Junior running back Tony Burrus rushed 17 times for 124 rushing yards while junior quarterback back Trajdon Davis rushed 35 times with 112 rushing yards on the night. Senior wide receiver Max Thompson had 2 receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown while senior wide receiver Koien Banks had 3 receptions for 55 yards on the night.

 

The Colonels as a team, had 210 yards rushing and 150 yards passing for a total of 360 yards of offense on the night. The Colonel’s defense allowed the Aces to 52 yards rushing and 402 passing yards for a total of 454 yards of total offense on the night, as the Colonels forced 2 fumbles and recovered one, 1 punt, and allowed the Aces 19 first downs. The Colonels had 6 penalties for 60 yards while the Aces had 4 penalties for 30 yards on the night.

 

The Colonels will take on the Mayfield Cardinals next Friday night, September 22nd, at home at Colonel Stadium with the kickoff at 7:00 P.M.
