The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the McCracken County Mustangs at home at Colonel Stadium.

 

The Colonels would be the first to strike on a 4 play, 28 yard drive that resulted in  a 2 yard touchdown run by junior running back Tony Burrus, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would have a 7-0 lead with 4:49 to play in the first quarter. The Mustangs would strike back with a 8 play, 75 yard drive with a 34 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Maddox O’Neal to junior wide receiver Cooper Falconite, after the made PAT, the Mustangs would tie the game at 7-7 lead with 23 seconds to play in the first quarter. The Colonels would respond with a 9 play, 80 yard drive that ended with a 28 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Max Thompson to senior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would retake the lead 14-7 with 8:49 to play in the first half. The Colonels would get a huge interception by senior Koien Banks which then the Colonels would execute with a 6 play, 51 yard drive that would result in a 1 yard touchdown run by junior running back Tony Burrus, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 21-7 heading into halftime.

 

The Colonels would start the second half with the football and would execute on a 8 play, 70 yard drive that would end with a 8 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Max Thompson to senior wide receiver Koien Banks, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 28-7 with 8:13 to play in the third quarter. The Mustangs would respond right back on a 9 play, 80 yard drive that would result in a 16 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Maddox O’Neal to junior wide receiver Cooper Falconite, as after the made PAT, the Mustangs cut the deficit to 28-14 with 4:56 to play in the third quarter. Colonels would respond with a 7 play, 79 yard drive that would result in a 31 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Max Thompson to senior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft, as after the made PAT, the Colonels extended their lead to 35-14 with 1:11 to play in the third quarter. The Colonels would get a stop on defense and then turn around and execute on a 3 play, 42 yard drive that would end with a 23 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Max Thompson to senior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft, as after the PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 42-14 with 9:51 to play in the game. The Mustangs would strike back on a 5 play, 63 yard drive that ended with a 44 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Maddox O’Neal to junior wide receiver Cooper Falconite, as after the made PAT, the Mustangs would cut the Colonels lead to 42-21 with 6:43 to play in the game. The Colonels would score next on a 5 play, 53 yard drive that ended with a 12 yard touchdown run by junior running back Tony Burrus, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 49-21 with 5:26 to play in the game. The Colonels would strike again on a 6 play, 34 yard drive that ended with a 2 yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Avant Baxter, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their big lead to 56-21 with 1:39 to play in the game. The Mustangs would respond with a 4 play, 63 yard drive that resulted in a 50 yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Maddox O’Neal, as after the made PAT, the Mustangs would cut the deficit to 56-28 with 17 seconds to play in the game. The Colonels would come away with a big district win at home against the McCracken County Mustangs 56-28. The Colonels improve to (2-5) on the season while the Mustangs fall to a (3-4) record.

 

Colonel senior quarterback Max Thompson was 11 for 14 with 158 yards and 4 touchdown passes on the night. Junior running back Tony Burrus rushed 28 times for 168 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns while sophomore running back Avant Baxter rushed 6 times with 48 rushing yards and a touchdown on the night. Senior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft had 7 receptions for 108 yards and 3 touchdown receptions while senior wide receiver Koien Banks had 3 receptions for 43 yards and 1 receiving touchdown on the night. 

 

The Colonels as a team, had 264 yards rushing and 158 yards passing for a total of 422 yards of offense on the night. The Colonel’s defense allowed the Mustangs to 148 yards rushing and 155 passing yards for a total of 303 yards of total offense on the night, as the Colonels forced 2 fumbles and recovered one, 4 punts, 1 interception, and allowed the Mustangs to get 14 first downs. The Colonels had 7 penalties for 70 yards while the Mustangs had 9 penalties for 80 yards on the night.

 

The Colonels next game will be on the road next Friday night, October 13th, at Reid Stadium taking on the Daviess County Panthers in Owensboro with the kickoff at 7:00 P.M.
