Colonels Look to Extend Win Streak on the Road Against the Panthers

By Ryan Davenport, WSON Sports Correspondent

The Henderson County Colonels defeated the McCracken County Mustangs 56-28 last Friday night at home.

This week the Colonels are on the road at Reid Stadium in Owensboro.

Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about the Daviess County Panthers and the takeaways from film on them, “They’ve played a bunch of kids at quarterback. I think they’ve settled in now with the (Luke) Floyd kid, who’s kind of one of their all around better players. He’d been playing a little receiver for them and has started for them at outside linebacker on defense. (He’s) just a really good football player, good size kid, does a good job, knows the game well. (Their) offense kind of changed, got more of an athlete type of kid now that they put at quarterback now instead of the scrambling type kids that they had early in the season. Gameplan for them obviously changes with that and so just understanding the different looks that we’ve seen on film and things personnel wise that they’ve shown and knowing who’s where and what they like to do with those guys in those positions.”

Coach Josh Boston talks about the keys to the game in order to come away with a second district win against the Panthers, “No turnovers. Special teams are going to be big, special teams were big for us last week against McCracken, but special teams are going to be big for us tonight. Daviess (County) likes to do a lot of different stuff with their kicking game. Making sure that we’re managing their formations and stuff like that right, managing where they’re placing the ball on their kickoffs. Special teams are going to be big, we got to make sure we are sound there. Other than that, no mental mistakes, making sure we are lining up, making sure we are understanding where guys are at and what our responsibilities are.”

In his 6th season as the Head Coach of the Panthers, Coach Matt Brannon talked about the keys to the game for the Panthers to come away with a win at home against the Colonels, “We’ve got to limit our turnovers. Offensively, we’ve made a lot of mistakes. The last two games even though they were wins could’ve been bigger wins for us if we hadn’t turned the ball over late and just held onto the ball, finished drives and things like that I think that’s going to be key for us. Defensively we’ve been able to create those turnovers, so if we can manage that and we can kind of win that turnover ratio I think we’re going to be in good shape tonight.”

Kickoff for tonight’s game against the (2-5) Daviess County Panthers is at 7:00 P.M. at Reid Stadium in Owensboro.

WSON AM/FM will have complete coverage beginning with the pre-game around 6:05 P.M.
