Colonels Finish the Season on the Road Against the Red Devils

By Ryan Davenport, WSON Sports Correspondent

The Henderson County Colonels defeated the Christian County Colonels 64-32 last Friday night at home.

This week the Colonels are on the road at Rash Stadium in Owensboro.

Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about the Owensboro Red Devils and the takeaways from film on them, “Biggest thing is their (running) backs. They’ve got the Hampton kid, number 22, in the backfield, big time playmaker, and then they got the Winstead kid, who’s a big load at running back. They will switch them around, Hampton will be in the backfield and Wisntead will be in formation and then they’ll bring Winstead in the backfield and they’ll put Hampton out in formation. When you look at it, Winstead’s got more carries but Hampton’s got more yards and so they’re utilizing them both, both ways. Hampton’s their leading rusher yards wise and he’s also their leading receiver and so they move him around and he’s only a sophomore and he’s got big play ability and they rely a lot on him. The Delacey kid at quarterback does a great job of managing the game. He (Delacey) won the quarterback competition between the other Hampton coming through the summer, in 7 on 7s and stuff and so he’s done a great job of managing the game and getting the ball where he needs to, making plays with his feet when he needs to, just a good well poised kid…Defensively, they’re really young at inside linebacker and I think that’s exposed them a little bit but they’ve always got the speed to take away the big play, you know they dont give up a whole lot of big plays at all, you know they’ve got the speed to always get it down and so that’s going to be important on maintaining drives.”

Coach Josh Boston talks about the keys to the game in order to come away with a win on the road against the Red Devils, “Biggest thing is like I mentioned earlier, you know we’ve got to maintain drives, you know the past few weeks we’ve been able to have big plays offensively and able to take the top off and so tonight they’re going to have the speed to contain those big plays and it’s going to be making sure we are moving the chains, you know not getting behind the chains, not getting penalties to get us behind the chains, you know making sure that we’re efficient moving the chains, getting first downs as we get down the field. Defensvily, it’s going to be knowing where twenty two’s is at, knowing where five’s at, making Delacey in the pocket, you know making him execute, taking away what he wants to, making him do things he typically doesn’t want to do.”

In his 9th season as the Head Coach of the Red Devils, Coach Jay Fallin talked about the keys to the game for the Red Devils to come away with a win at home against the Colonels, “Our same keys as every week, execute on offense, they have a change don’t turn the ball over, don’t commit silly penalties. Defensvily, communicate with one another, make sure our line is right before the ball is snapped, push through the ball and tackle.”

Kickoff for tonight’s game against the (5-4) Owensboro Red Devils is at 7:00 P.M. at Rash Stadium in Owensboro.
