Colonels Claw Past Panthers

The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Daviess County Panthers at home at Colonel Gym to open the 2023-2024 season.

 

In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Panthers 15-13, as Colonel senior guard Alec Satterfield and junior forward Lacon McKinney combined for 11 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Panthers would outscore the Colonels 15-13, as senior center Yusef Sanogo-Kendrick scored 6 points in the quarter and the Colonels would be tied with the Panthers at halftime with the score 28-28.

 

To begin the second half, the Colonels would outscore the Panthers 9-5, as senior forward Max Thompson scored 4 points in the quarter, as the Colonels would hold a 37-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final quarter, the Hornets and the Colonels would score 15 points each, as junior guard Cooper Davenport would score 6 points in the quarter and the Colonels would come away with a narrow 4 point win over the Panthers with the final score 52-48. The Colonels improve to (1-0) on the season while the Panthers fall to (0-1).

 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Alec Satterfield with 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds while shooting 6 for 7 from the free throw line on the night. Junior forward Lacon McKinney scored 11 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while junior guard Cooper Davenport tallied 9 points while shooting 5 for 7 from the free throw line. Senior center Yusef Sanogo-Kendrick contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line while senior forward Max Thompson recorded 6 points and 3 rebounds. Junior forward Trajdon Davis added 4 points and 3 rebounds while junior center Elijah Suggs scored 2 points and grabbed 3 rebounds on the night.

 

As a team, the Colonels shot 0 for 7 (0%) from the three point line and 14 for 19 (74%) from the free throw line while grabbing 25 total rebounds and committing 15 on the night.

 

The Colonels next game will be next Tuesday night, December 5th, on the road against the Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado with the tip-off around 7:30 P.M.
