The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Hancock County Lady Hornets on the road to open up the 2023-2024 season.

 

In the opening period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Hornets, 23-11, as Lady Colonel sophomore forward A’Tylia Green scored 11 points heading into the second quarter. In the second period, the Lady Hornets would outscore Lady Colonels, 17-16, as the Lady Colonels would hold a 11 point lead over the Lady Hornets heading into halftime with the score 39-28.

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Hornets, 23-12, as sophomore forward Brooklyn Gibson scored 6 points in the quarter and the Lady Colonels would hold a 62-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Hornets, 14-10, as the Lady Colonels would come away with a 26 point win over the Lady Hornets with the final score 76-50. The Lady Colonels improve to (1-0) on the season while the Lady Hornets drop to (0-1). First year head Coach Stephen Haile gets his first career win as Head Coach of the Lady Colonels in his first game as the Head Coach.

 

The leading scorer for the Henderson County Lady Colonels was sophomore forward A’Tylia Green with 22 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 8 for 9 from the free throw line on the night. Junior guard Allyson Rideout scored 13 points and 5 rebounds while sophomore forward Brooklyn Gibson tallied 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds while shooting 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Junior guard Rashia Cansler recorded 7 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 2 for 3 from the three point line while 8th grade forward Callie Burnett contributed 8 points. Freshman guard JaNyla Locher scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds while sophomore guard Addy Gish added 6 points on the night.

 

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 2 for 9 (22%) from the three point line and shot 18 for 25 (72%) from the free throw line while grabbing a total of 27 rebounds and committing 18 turnovers on the night.  

 

The Lady Colonels next game will be Friday night, December 1st, at home at Colonel Gym against the McCracken County Lady Mustangs with the tip-off at 8:00 P.M.
