Dixon will not seek third term in Kentucky House

Frankfort, Kentucky (December 20, 2023) – State Representative Jonathan Dixon announced Wednesday that he will not file for re-election to the Kentucky House of Representatives. The Henderson Republican was first elected in 2020 and serves as Vice Chair of the House Transportation Committee.

“I am incredibly grateful to the people of Henderson County for entrusting me with the privilege of representing them in Frankfort and I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish over the past three years – lowering the income tax, passing the most responsible budget in modern history, and enacting legislation that has made this a better place to live and work,” Dixon said. “This decision was a difficult one, but ultimately the time has come to change my direction.”

In addition to his leadership role on the House Transportation Committee, Dixon also serves on the House Committees on Agriculture; Local Government; and Licensing, Occupations, and Administrative Regulations. His efforts to help Kentuckians transition from public assistance programs into the workforce led to the passage of legislation that created a benefits cliff calculator. Dixon also sponsored legislation that clarified state law to ensure malt-based products could be bottled within the state, a move that resulted in job creation as distilleries expanded their lines.

“We knew Jonathan would be a great member when he arrived in Frankfort and within three years, he’s made a huge impact. While I regret that he’s leaving the House, I also appreciate what he’s done for our commonwealth and hope to see his name on a ballot again in the future,” House Speaker David Osborne added.

Dixon played a major role in the creation of the Kentucky General Assembly’s Aviation Caucus, reflecting the aviation and aerospace industry’s impact on the commonwealth.

“We’ve seen incredible growth in aerospace and aviation, and that’s translating into good-paying jobs and new employers. However, it also means we’ve got to be ready with a skilled workforce,” Osborne added. “Representative Dixon recognized the importance of keeping this issue at the forefront and pushed to create the Aviation Caucus to ensure we are positioned to take advantage of the potential.”

While Dixon will not be on the May Primary or November General Election ballots, Dixon will continue to serve the state’s 11th House District during the 2024 Regular Session and through the remainder of his term, which ends December 31, 2024.
