City of Henderson names new assistant city manager

HENDERSON, KY, – Dylan Ward has been named the city of Henderson’s new assistant city manager.

The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners officially appointed Ward the new assistant city manager during their meeting held Tuesday at the Municipal Center. Ward will start in his new role on Monday, March 4.

He was hired in 2014 as engineering assistant, promoted in 2016 to public works engineer and promoted once more in 2017 to his current position as the City of Henderson project manager.

In his current role, Ward oversees the City’s Engineering and Safety teams as well as the Mass Transit team. He provides management for the design, planning, and construction of City special/capital projects including oversight for the design and construction of new buildings, facilities, parks, industrial sites, sports complexes, sidewalks, and streets/parking lots. His most notable projects include involvement with the Henderson Sports Complex, East End Park, Countryview Stormwater Project, redevelopment of The Bridges Golf Course, Community Dog Park, and The Perch Pocket Park.

“Dylan is very capable and has gained sufficient experience to handle the duties of Assistant City
Manager,” said City Manager William L. “Buzzy” Newman. “He will oversee additional departments as well as continuing the oversight of his current
duties. His current position of city project manager will be advertised in the near future.”

City of Henderson Mayor Brad Staton said he’d worked with Ward for more than seven years.

“He’s intelligent, professional, and has an extensive background in engineering and project management,” said Staton. “The City has kept a very ambitious agenda the past several years. When we look at new industries and housing, several major road projects, the Countryview Drainage Project, the Inner City Improvement Plan, construction of a new sports complex, and so much more we have overloaded our City Manager. As a result, the
Board of Commissioners is fully supportive of hiring an Assistant City Manager.”

He said Ward is a good fit for filling the position.

“I believe Dylan is the perfect candidate to fill this vital role and to allow our city to keep the momentum going, the mayor said. “I’m proud of Dylan and I’m proud to be part of this decision,” added Mayor Staton.

A graduate of Western Kentucky University, Ward obtained a B.S. in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Public Administration. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Kentucky.

Ward’s civic involvement has included the Henderson Leadership Initiative Program, multiple mission trips to El Salvador & Guatemala, board member for The Gathering Place Senior Center (serving as board
chair in 2022), serving as President of the Green River Chapter of the Kentucky Society for Professional Engineers, serving as President of the KY Southern Branch of the American Public Works Association, and holding various leadership roles within his church.

“I’m honored and excited for the opportunity to serve the City of Henderson,” Ward said about his new position. “When I started working for the City a little more than ten years ago, I always hoped to earn a
role such as this one. Thanks to many great mentors and co-workers that dream is now being realized. Continuing the momentum the Henderson community has experienced the past few years is something I’m excited to be a part of in my new role.  The success our community has seen is due in large part to the amazing staff and leadership we have at the City of Henderson. My goal is to support each of them in reaching their objectives and working together for the betterment of our city.”

Ward said he believes community partnerships are the key to achieving continued success.

“I’m excited to continue nurturing the community-wide sense of collaboration that has been central to Henderson’s recent successes. The city has formed many great partnerships with the Henderson County Government, Henderson County Schools, our local utilities, and many others. I hope to continue that work so we can leverage even greater successes for our community,” states Ward.

Ward and his wife, Hannah, will have been married 10 years this summer and have two children – Lindleigh, 5, and Caleb, 1.
