Henderson Community College to Host Solar Eclipse Activities


HENDERSON, Ky. – Henderson Community College has two special events scheduled in conjunction with the upcoming solar eclipse.

The first event is on March 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the Preston Arts Center on campus. HCC Professor Dr. Scott Taylor will present Earth, The Moon, and Solar Eclipses, an educational overview of eclipses. Local schools have been invited to bring students to attend the lecture, and the public is also welcome. Educators interested in attending the March 12 event should contact Dr. Taylor at scott.taylor@kctcs.edu.

On April 8, HCC will host a free viewing party for the general public sponsored by Owensboro Health. The schedule of events includes:

·         A showing of the movie “Little Shop of Horrors” from 10 a.m. to noon in the Sullivan Technology Center. Light refreshments will be served.

·         Mr. D’s food truck will be on campus from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for guests to purchase food during their visit.

·         HCC’s telescope will be available beginning at noon for guests to get a close-up view of the sky before, during, and after the eclipse.

·         Complimentary solar eclipse glasses will be available to all guests, while supplies last. The HCC Barnes & Noble Bookstore will also have a supply of solar eclipse glasses available for purchase.

·         The partial solar eclipse will begin at 12:45 p.m. followed by the start of totality at 2:02 p.m. Maximum totality will occur at 2:03 p.m. The eclipse will end at approximately 3:20 p.m.
