Lyons Spurt Ends Colonels Season

The Henderson County Colonels would suffer a season ending 12 point loss against the Lyon County Lyons, 56-44, in the Championship Game of the 2nd Region Tournament at Hopkinsville High School in Hopkinsville.

The turning point in the game was the first minute and 45 seconds in the 3rd Quarter, the Lyons went on a 12-0 run, in which Travis Perry and Jack Reddick made 2 three pointers each and the Colonels turned the ball over 3 times in that spurt.

The leading scorers for the Lyons was Travis Perry with 23 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists while Jack Reddick had 1o points and 4 assists. Bray Kirk had 10 points while Brady Shoulders had 6 points and 10 rebounds. Lukas Breedlove tallied 4 points while Carson Collins added 2 points. To round out the scoring, Isaac Defew scored 1 point on the night.

The leading scorers for the Colonels was Alec Satterfield with 14 points and 3 rebounds while Max Thompson had 9 points and 5 rebounds. Lacon McKinney had 6 points while Cooper Davenport added 5 points. Dwaine Moss tallied 3 points while Nick Belle had 3 points and 3 rebounds. Elijah Suggs scored 2 points while Xavion Johnson had 2 points on the night.

The Lyons shot 17 for 21 (81%) from the free throw line to the Colonels 10 for 12 (83%). The Lyons shot 9 for 20 (45%) from behind the three point line to the Colonels 4 for 12 (33%). The Lyons had a total of 24 rebounds while the Colonels had 19 total rebounds in the game. The Lyons recorded 10 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks while the Colonels recorded 3 steals, 6 assists, and 2 blocks. The Lyons committed 6 turnovers to the Colonels committing 10 turnovers on the night.

 

The Henderson County  Colonels had 3 players named to the 2nd Region All-Tournament Team, from left to right, senior guard Alec Satterfield, junior guard Cooper Davenport, and junior forward Elijah Suggs.

Head Coach of the Colonels Tyler Smithart won the 2nd Region Basketball Coaches Association 2023-2024 Boy’s Coach of the Year.

The Lyons improve to (32-3) on the season while the Colonels season ends with a (26-7) record.
