Nashville man killed in wreck on Pennyrile Parkway this weekend


Nortonville, Ky. (04/08/2024) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the Pennyrile Parkway near Nortonville this weekend.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s department requested KSP Post 2 investigate a fatal collision on the Pennyrile Parkway at approximately 5:23 a.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Desmond Washington, 19, of Fort Campbell, was operating a Toyota Corolla northbound on the Pennyrile Parkway.  Elmer Francisco Calo Morente, 16, of Nashville, was operating a Toyota Tacoma Southbound.

For unknown reasons, Washington’s Toyota Corolla crossed the median, entered the southbound lanes, and struck Morente’s Toyota Tacoma head-on.

The Hopkins County Coroner pronounced Matias C. Juarez, 26, of Nashville dead at the scene. Juarez was a passenger in Morente’s car.

The investigation is ongoing by Accident Reconstructionist Trooper Patrick Penrod. KSP was assisted on scene by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Highway Department, and the Hopkins County coroner.
