Gary W. Johnson, age 82, of Henderson, Kentucky, went to be with his Lord on Monday, April 15, 2024.  He was born on May 3, 1941, in Dale, Illinois.

Gary was a faithful member of Hyland Baptist Church since 1963, where he served as trustee, usher, and greeter.  He loved doing general repairs at his church.  Gary was owner/operator of Gary’s Backhoe Service, Inc. since 1972.  He enjoyed building and refinishing furniture, restoring antique tractors, going to tractor shows, and camping with his family.  He was known and valued as “Mr. Fix-it” by his family.

Gary’s family was his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Johnson; mother, LaVerne Webb; and son, Gary Glenn Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jeanette Johnson; two (2) daughters, Lori Hesley (Jeff) of Sturgis, Kentucky, and Tonya Beals (Mark) of Henderson, Kentucky; four (4) grandchildren, Mark Hesley (Brittany) of Henderson, Kentucky, Michael Hesley (Jackie) of Sturgis, Kentucky, and Brandon Beals and Bethany Francis (Nathan) of Henderson, Kentucky; six (6) great-grandchildren, Cole, Bella, Owen, Thomas, Nora Hesley and Hannah Francis; one (1) brother, Lary Johnson of Elizabethtown, Illinois; one (1) sister, Kitty Christensen of Phoenix, Arizona; mother-in-law, Jessie Hunley of Morganfield, Kentucky; and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for Gary Johnson’s Life Celebration.

Visitation on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hyland Baptist Church, 1400 Wright Street, Henderson, Kentucky, and Friday, April 19, 2024, from 9:00 am until service time at 11:00 am at the church with Reverend Kenny Kidd and Reverend Jeff Hesley officiating.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Hesley, Mark Beals, Mark Hesley, Michael Hesley, Brandon Beals, Nathan Francis, Danny Liggett and Terry Todd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gideon’s Sunday School Class of Hyland and other close friends and relatives.

Contributions in Gary’s memory may be made to Hyland Baptist Church Building Fund, 1400 Wright Street, Henderson, Kentucky 42420.
